Since Project Brazen launched, we've released 14 podcasts investigating everything from Navy corruption to international art trafficking. Today, we're adding one more podcast to that line-up. It's called Whale Hunting, and you can think of it as a sister to the newsletter.

It's been more than two years since the very first Whale Hunting newsletter landed in email inboxes. Since then, Project Brazen's team has grown, as has our pool of Whale Hunters – so thank you all for subscribing!

If you've been with us from the beginning, you'll know Whale Hunting came about as a result of Bradley and Tom's globe-spanning 1MDB investigation. Jho Low, the fraudster who orchestrated the $6 billion theft from the 1MDB fund and is still at large, was the ultimate whale.

If you're new here, let me acquaint you with this term. It comes from nightclubs and casinos, who use it as a codeword for big spenders. At Whale Hunting, our use of the term is a little broader. The whales are the people, usually armed with extraordinary amounts of money, that play a larger role in global affairs than their public profile might suggest. Once you understand who they are and how they operate, you'll never look at the news in the same way.

Which brings us to today's update. Since Project Brazen launched, we've released 14 podcasts investigating everything from Navy corruption to international art trafficking. Today, we're adding one more podcast to that line-up. It's called Whale Hunting, and you can think of it as a sister to the newsletter.

Every Wednesday, Tom and Bradley will share what’s got them talking this week, from global headlines to underworld gossip. Each episode will offer something different, but you can expect obscene tales of corruption, insights on the bizarre habits of billionaires, and conversations with reporters, spies, hostage negotiators, cops, authors, and the occasional criminal. Think of it as dropping in on the watercooler chat at Project Brazen’s office.

For our debut episode today, we're discussing the stranger-than-fiction story of Pras Michel, and attempting to answer the questions: how did the Ghetto Superstar rapper become locked in an international financial fraud case – and will dodgy AI put him behind bars?

In the weeks ahead, we'll be covering the mafia, oligarchs, espionage and more, and chatting with reporters and former intelligence officers.

In fact, if there's something you'd like to hear Tom and Bradley dig into, get in touch! You can drop us an email at whalehunting@projectbrazen.com.

Make sure you don't miss an episode (they're weekly on Wednesdays) by subscribing to the show wherever you listen to podcasts. Here's the link to Whale Hunting on Apple Podcasts, on Spotify, and everywhere else.

As ever, thank you for your support!

This is WHALE HUNTING, a newsletter (and now podcast!) delving into the secret worlds of money and power that we became obsessed with during our multi-year investigation into the globe-sprawling 1MDB scandal. That project changed our entire worldview. We wrote a book about it. We were long-time reporters for the Wall Street Journal before setting off on our own last year to create Project Brazen, a journalism studio and production company. We're creating books, podcasts and documentaries, and we'll share behind-the-scenes insights into the characters and stories we find along the way.

You can also follow Whale Hunting on Twitter and Brazen on Instagram.

Join our Discord server to chat about Whale Hunting scoops, get behind-the-scenes insight into projects like Fat Leonard and join the hunt for Jho Low – we'll post clues as they come to us.
